The Train

My first HDR. I like it.

The train was going back and forth, loading and unloading cars, so I walked down the street to the tracks to take a picture. I was standing right beside the tracks and it honked right beside me. I jumped several feet in the air.

Only Ontario Northland goes through Kirkland Lake - both train and bus. I've been through there many times. I once heard that Maheux ran a route from Rouyn to KL before, but they chopped it off the schedule because not enough people were riding it. This means there's no service from KL eastward.

An interesting note: This line is technically owned by the Nipissing Central Railway, which ONR bought to construct this line to Quebec. The NCR had a federal charter, which ONR needed to cross into Quebec. The Quebec government stopped construction on the border at Cheminis, becuase of the politics of having an Ontario Government owned railway on their soil. When CN reached Rouyn, they gave the green light to proceed into Rouyn - even though the mine owners wanted to only do business with the T&NO as it was called then.
